Moms Seek Sponsorship For No Mercury In Vaccines

Raleigh, NC - Local mom Amy Carson, and Raleigh mom Angela
Medlin are seeking sponsorship for a bill that will prohibit
the use of mercury and mercury derivatives in children's
vaccines and the flu shot.
In 1999 it was recommended by the American Academy of
Pediatrics to remove thimerosal, a mercury based
preservative, used in children's vaccines and the flu shot.
This action was not mandatory therefore not executed by all
vaccine manufacturers. Thimerosal was removed from topical
medications, over the counter medications, and animal
vaccines, yet was allowed to stay in our children's vaccines
and the flu shot. Thimerosal can still be found in a
significant amount of vaccines and the flu shot today.
Amy and Angela's sons both received developmental
disabilities following routine vaccinations containing
thimerosal. Mercury is the most powerful neurotoxin known
to man and is most detrimental to the developing brain.
Thimerosal is half mercury by weight and is metabolized in
the body as ethyl mercury, a more powerful toxin than methyl
mercury. Much debate has gone on over the years as to
thimerosal's safety and connection to this country's autism
epidemic. Mercury poisoning and autism share well over 100
characteristics and symptoms. North Carolina has had a 418%
increase in autism over the last ten years.
Federal legislation to have thimerosal removed from vaccines
is moving too slow. The states have decided to initiate
legislation on their own to ensure their children's safety.
California and Iowa passed such legislation last year and
there is currently 17 other states working to get similar
bills passed this year.
"I feel the state of North Carolina has an obligation where
our children's safety is concerned," says Amy.
"It should be obvious to anyone with two neurons left to rub
together that the big pharmaceutical companies, with all
their chemical and biochemical expertise, knew the relative
neurotoxicity of compounds like thimerosal and ethyl mercury
as early as the 1970s. Therefore, they should have done (and
likely did do) their own toxicity testing before deciding to
place thimerosal in infant vaccines. Therefore, to initiate
a new practice procedure of exposing a newborn to a well
known toxicant without substantial testing of the safety of
the procedure (especially with the 1977 death of 10 infants
caused by thimerosal being added topologically) is, in my
opinion, total negligence of their obligation as vaccine
providers. Companies, or any medical provider, is obligated
to take efforts to determine the safety or lack of toxicity
of any material they sell for human treatments. The only
excuse these companies have going for them is the acceptance
of their untested procedures by certain inept FDA and CDC
bureaucrats who continue supporting the safety of thimerosal
in the face of overwhelming biological studies implicating
this neurotoxin in the epidemic of neurological diseases
currently epidemic in our children", states Boyd Haley. PhD,
and Chair of the Chemistry Department University of
Kentucky, and well known researcher.
"Thimerosal (50% mercury by weight) is a neurotoxic ethyl
mercury-containing compound, similar to the methyl mercury
in seafood, that has been added to some vaccines. Thimerosal
has been determined to be a developmental toxin according to
the California Environmental Protection Agency, Office of
Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, meaning that
Thimerosal can cause birth defects, low birth weight,
biological dysfunctions, or psychological or behavior
deficits that become manifest as the child grows, and
maternal exposure during pregnancy can disrupt the
development or even cause the death of the fetus. The
Subcommittee on Human Rights and Wellness, Government Reform
Committee of the United States House of Representatives
following a three investigation of the scientific literature
and internal documents from government and industry
concluded, 'Thimerosal used as a preservative in vaccines is
likely related to the autism epidemic. This epidemic in all
probability may have been prevented or curtailed had the FDA
not been asleep at the switch regarding the lack of safety
data regarding injected Thimerosal and the sharp rise of
infant exposure to this known neurotoxin. Our public health
agencies' failure to act is indicative of institutional
malfeasance for self-protection and misplaced protectionism
of the pharmaceutical industry. "We believe that
prudence dictates that now is the time to remove Thimerosal
(mercury) from all vaccines administered to children and
pregnant women", adds Dr. Mark R. Geier of the Genetic
Centers of America, & David A. Geier of MedCon.
"As a former industry insider, I know the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries use a variety of toxic chemicals in the manufacturing of vaccines and drugs. Banning thimerosal (ethyl mercury) is an important step in assuring vaccines are 100% safe and cause no harm to the immune and neurological systems of our children. But more needs to be done by our elected officials, by regulators, and by informing parents to pass laws that require full disclosure of all toxic chemicals used in the manufacturing of these potent products. For example, one of the required childhood vaccines uses an extremely lethal chemical in its manufacturing process. We as parents and citizens have the right to know what chemicals are being used and how the industry is protecting our babies and children from potential harm," says Mark Livingston former employee of Wyeth Pharmaceuticals. Amy and Angela will be meeting with the Representatives Bruce Goforth, Bob England, Lucy Allen, Martha Alexander, and Verla Insko on Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at 11:00am in Representative Goforth's office to seek their support and sponsorship of this bill. In attendance with them will be Mark Livingston, a former Wyeth employee, who was fired for being a whistle blower on vaccine safety. Also joining them via teleconference is Dr. Mark Geier, David Geier, and Dr. Boyd Haley, researchers who have found significant links to thimerosal and neurodevelopmental disabilities, to include autism, PDD, ADD, ADHD and Alzheimer's Disease.
